After unveiling the critically lauded Mine Canary EP in 2010 and self-releasing a further set of material, Castle Class, in 2012, Ivan Moult’s long-awaited debut album has seen many regenerations. His breathy, breathtaking vocals and reimagining of 1970s acoustic folk lineage remain, but sonic horizons have been broadened, conquered and then broadened again. Long-term live favourite, I Know I’ll Never Be Born Again, is here reworked to incorporate bass, drums and electric guitar while Most Of All subtly subsumes orchestral strings. The results lend comparison to the weighty pastoral tradition of Nick Drake and John Martyn while simultaneously aligning neatly with tragically love-stung troubadours Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith.

Sometimes, as the saying goes, the wait is worth it.
